Allison Hewitt is Trapped was a quick, fun read about a young woman who has survived a zombie outbreak.
Told in blog format, we learn of Allison's bravery and her fight to make it to safety. She blogs about the people she meets and the journey to find her mother, sometimes in gruesome detail. The short blog entries and Allison's personality make the novel an easy read, and I found myself hoping that Allison would make it to the end.
I enjoyed the novel, but it still had its issues. Particularly towards the end where I found it hard to believe Allison's laptop was still undamaged, let alone that she could find somewhere to charge it. I also felt it unlikely that her friends would know about the blog entries and not want to read what Allison was saying about them. (Some of her thoughts were intimate and/or scathing. I guess her friends reactions would have clouded the story with too much detail.) Also, I found the “romance” side of the story a bit confusing. Allison had most of the men folk almost falling at her feet and she seemed to blog more about the loss of these men than their female companions. What few female characters there were to blog about.
The novel isn't dark and depressing. There wasn't a lot of hoplessness and it seemed a bit “pretty” for a zombie outbreak. But if you're looking for a quick, fun read about zombies, this is it.
a book nerd with zombie killing skills, what's not to like?
SPOILER
okay maybe I didn't think she should have conveniently found her way back to the love interest, but at least she's still obsessed with finding her mom right?
