I like the premise but it's a little slow moving. I'm not sure I'll be finishing this series.
Nice quick read to give us a little more closer to the series. Basically a gift from the authors to visit with the characters one more time.
Loved this sequel even more than the 1st. Both the female and male main characters were relatable and fallible. So glad characters from the first book made it to this one and were in many ways comic relief. It was a quick and enjoyable read!
Really liked this book. Not sure how this got on my TBR pile but I’m glad it did. Love the kickass female main character and loved the realistic storyline.
Good, solid book. I liked the characters and I’m glad they weren’t one dimensional, all kinds of gray! This was a new author to me after picking this book from Amazon’s First Reads. I’m definitely a fan and will be reading more!
I almost didn’t finish this book. The bones of the book are good, meaning the premise of the story is a good one which is why I picked up in the first place but other than that it was a complete dud. There was no meat on those bones! Didn’t care about the characters, they seemed to just get together willy nilly. No invested interested in any of them. And the writing just wasn’t good.
I’m curious about the world that these characters live in. The first book is more about the characters and less about the World. Reading other’s reviews, their questions are legit. I just see the characters taking precedence in this first book with many questions remaining about the World they inhabit.
OMG -
I don’t want to say anything about this book except read the book blind. Don’t read any reviews just read it. It’s much better that way!
This book was a slow burner, started slow and it was a bit difficult to get into it but then it picks up and gets better. The author reveals the story through two characters telling their story from different times and their perspectives. It took me a while to appreciate that type of storytelling but I did come to think it was a nice unique way to do it. There is a lot of things going on and so I did get lost in who was who at times. The magic systems allows for people to be reborn and switch bodies which leads to some difficulties keeping up with who is who and who is relative to who.
Not my cup of tea, I’m way outside my usual genres and I’m surprised I finished it. It was beautifully written I just found myself not interested.
Cute with a unique character that adds character to the book. No surprises as you can see where it is going very quickly.
I've been meaning to read this book for a very long time, and since my friend Cynthia was reading it and said it was very good I moved it up the To Be Read list and made it happen. I really enjoyed the intrigue and characters. Different that my usual reading material and it really held my interest and I was always wondering what is next. Not too deep of a book but I do think that the “Lisbeth” character was a deeper character than most and I look forward to meeting her more in the next books. My only probably is that I need to get some work done and diving in to the next book right now probably isn't the best idea. I was up to 11:30 last night and I finished the book while on the elliptical at the gym this morning. I NEVER read while working out but I NEEDED to finish the book!
**Second Read Review**The second read was much more enjoyable than the first because I was able to pick up on nuances of the story much better. I was more prepared and actually slowed down. I have a habit of skipping whole paragraphs that just include description. With this book I needed make sure I read every word so that I wasn't missing something. Thus, I was able to pick up more this time around. I liked more characters this time around and the story held my attention. I am starting [b:Deadhouse Gates 55401 Deadhouse Gates (The Malazan Book of the Fallen, #2) Steven Erikson http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/51VJH2TSVHL.SL75.jpg 3898716] now as I want to see where the series leads me. Which is quite a step up from what I thought in my review from my first read. I'm not going to change my rating as I still believe that “I liked” the book but I believe that other books in the series will get higher ratings.**First Read Review**Intense but good. After reading this book I felt like a re-read is a must after reading the whole series. Many times I was confused about the storyline, but I believe that there was a reward at the end for soldiering through it. I don't think I could read this whole series one after the other, too intense but I will get through it. This is not a book that you can just zip through, I believe that my “speed reading” hurt me while reading it. When I read the other novels in the series I will be more attentive off the bat, I missed too much of the nuances in the beginning. I do love the fact that this series is completely different than what I've read in the past. Eriksen's voice is refreshing, new and challenging!
A completely different universe with different breeds of characters, literally. The main character has power she has no idea about and this book takes her through the discovery of what she is and what her power can do. Not much was given away in regards to that power or the darkness she is facing. The most complicated character was that of Nightshade. I'm curious about the whole world but it didn't draw me in as much as I had hoped it would. More detailed information about the world would have been better but I guess we'll get more in subsequent books.
I quickly read through this book. I loved all the references to food and drink as well as a lot of the references to history and literary works.
The author keeps the story moving along and while it is in the same vein as the Twilight Series and The Vampire Diaries it more intellectual parts and adult thoughts and pastimes. I liked that there were three “monsters” with the witches, vampires and daemon who live in the same world as humans but hidden in plain site. The interactions between the species was interesting and I'm looking forward to getting to know each species more in future books and where the conflicts lead.
I jumped right in to this second book after tearing through the first one. I'm glad that the story was connected to the first but in many ways all together different. I'm also glad that our heroine started showing some cracks. I love seeing a character develop into something different or become more complexed. [a:Stieg Larsson 706255 Stieg Larsson http://photo.goodreads.com/authors/1246466225p2/706255.jpg] has a great storytelling voice and it is disappointing that we lost him so early.
Although I read this a while back now I remember the first book of the series really grabbed my attention and I enjoyed the different perspective of this land. I enjoyed the by-play between the characters and even laughed out loud at some parts.
Hmmm, not sure how I feel about this book. I seem to have forgotten a lot from the immediate books before this series of books. However, it really wasn't an impediment to me understanding what was going on in these books. There is a new story with tidbits from the previous books. It was a little slow for my liking and I kept waiting for the shoe to drop on one relationship but it never went that way. I'm curious enough to continue reading the series and see where the author wants to take me.
I usually love the world of Avalon and although it didn't take me much time to get through the book because I was sick and I couldn't do anything else this book was not as enjoyable as usual. I was never connected with any of the characters. I believe the author wanted to describe a period of time that had never been addressed but the story was never really fleshed out enough for me to care. I liked the characters but I never connected with them, never saw really what drove them. There was something missing as far as tying them to the story, they were there and then the did something. There wasn't much of a connection between their actions and their personalities. Not a waste of my time to read but I won't read it again.
This series is definitely a series because both this book and the first book just sort of ended where the combatants were at the time. I enjoyed this book, it was a quick, easy read while the plot moved forward quickly with lot's of action. I love the fact that these authors published this book themselves using an e-book format and look forward to the last book in the trilogy.
A very good start to what I hope is a good series. It reminds me a lot of George R.R. Martin's first book The Game of Thrones. Not as many characters and not as good but still a very good story. It is amazing how many books you read when you are sick, this is my third in 6 days and it was my favorite by far. I'm looking forward to seeing the young hero grow into his future and see how the overall story develops.
This is out of my normal reading material but I flew through the book and enjoyed the read. Interesting to read about a fringe group in the US and how one man got obsesssed and list himself. You hear a lot about the Hell's Angels so it was nice to read about what us true and what isn't and how their little society works.
I'm not sure why I put this book on my to-read list. In the future I'm going to have to note somewhere why I want to read a book because it usually takes me years to get to it and then I have no idea why I thought to read it.
This book is a prime example of this. This book is in the same vein as The Shack. I guess it's supposed to make you think about your life and how you live it. What is important and what should be left behind. It did make me think but then it just ended with no conclusion. It was very abrupt and not appreciated. I guess there is another book out there but I don't plan on reading it. I understand that an author wants to have a hook to the next book but this was ridiculous. The story line wasn't even near finished and the book was just over.
I struggles to get through this book as an audiobook. I started listening to it on Oct. 26, 2009 and finished it on May 16, 2011, which tells you how much I liked it. I can not believe they made a Broadway show out of this book. There were so many random things and storylines that really didn't go together. I particularly didn't like the random sexual scenes that had no real purpose except to shock the reader, in my opinion.I buy audiobooks to help move the time along on long drives and keep me awake. This book did neither and on several occasions I found myself nodding off while driving and having to change to another book or music.I bought the [b:Son of a Witch 13521 Son of a Witch (Wicked Years, #2) Gregory Maguire http://photo.goodreads.com/books/1166564765s/13521.jpg 845295] on audiobook but unless I want to be put to sleep I doubt I'll ever read it.
