I read this the day I got the email with my ARC lol. I'm always mildly hesitant when it comes to shorter stories (~250 pages here) because usually the things I love to see aren't there. I'm delighted to have been proved wrong.
I was impressed with how well the world was built how Mira and Bael grew as characters throughout the story. Mira was grappling with finding out the reality of what she thought she knew and Bael showed there was more to him than being the Queen's pawn. The slow burn between them felt natural and was at the perfect pace for the story.
Smidge of a cliffhanger at the end but I will (mostly) survive waiting for the next one, though I am looking forward to it!

3.75ish stars
I was pretty excited for this but it didn't quite hit for me. It was kind of slow until about halfway through. I feel like the only character that had any depth was Jax. I would have loved to see Elowen grow more as she experienced life outside of her guardian's clutches. I'll still read the next one because I am curious where it's going after the ending.

I received an email with an invite to this and after reading the description including a fake engagement and enemies to lovers in a magical academy? Sold.
The magic system being built off of tarot cards was really cool and something I have not seen before. The dark academia setting gave Harry Potter vibes with the division into houses based off the Minor Arcana.
I felt like most characters were a little morally grey which I love. I liked Clara and Kaelis (void born prince with a cat!) and how their relationship progressed into something real.
I am very much looking forward to the next one after all that went down at the end!

I liked Selene and Jules as characters and I liked them together. I feel like you got to see them both grow throughout the story as this progressed. Reverse grumpy x sunshine and one bed are always fun. Thought this was going to be more enemies to lovers (my favorite) but was probably closer to reluctant allies to lovers.
I would have liked to have seen more world building and a better explanation of how the magic worked. I felt kind of lost at times. I am also fully acknowledging as pedantic but the word bicep was used too many times imo. Once I noticed I couldn't stop lol.

Me: I really need to stop starting series that aren't finished
Also me: Okay but this one looks really good.. and that cover!
If I hadn't started this on a school night I would have finished this in one sitting. It has so many things I like - forced proximity, enemies to lovers, wonderful side characters AND it's set in a dark academia setting? The relationship between Wren and Torj was a slow burn but it was not without any tension. I loved that we got to see her work through her grief and trauma as the story progressed. After that ending I am very much looking forward to the next one.
I guess this is based in the world from another series? Having not known that until after I finished, you will be fine starting here lol.

I liked the premise of this and was expecting a bad ass warrior in Muirne but imo she didn't have any character growth even though she went through so much. The nickname Riagan gives Muirne is fitting. I did like that you saw Riagan's character growth as the story went on, getting to see there was more to the man behind the mercs.

I definitely would have read this in one sitting had I not foolishly started it the night before a work day. This has so many things I love: morally grey shadow daddy, enemies to lovers, found family, an interesting magic system I hadn't seen before.
I hope there's more from this world because I'd love to see more from these characters.
To note, it does have darker elements so this may not be for everyone.

As someone who is a fellow invisible illness suffer, I loved the dedication at the beginning.
I loved seeing the characters and the world. You get to see Vasalie's character develop as she adjusts to what is now her new "normal" (Personally, was very relatable) as well as Anton's development from someone giving F boy vibes to a more complex character.
This is the first time I can remember not actually knowing which love interest I preferred until it became obvious one of them sucked lol. The end was BUSY. TUGGING ON ALL THE EMOTIONS. I can't wait to see where the next one goes after the ending.

I enjoyed this. It kind read a little YA but with some darker elements. I liked seeing Dahlia's journey, seeing her and Caspien's relationship develop, the found family, and how music was incorporated into the magic. The end was good too.
