I LOVED the sleuthing that Dayna did! I loved how she was working with Arthur? Asher?. The misunderstanding was so funny. The Hollywood bits we got were good without being too much. I liked that the first answer came so easily, but then there were more twists and turns after that. This felt like a really good second book to develop Dayna and the people around her.
Anya is back at school after her cruise and she is back to work at making friends. She is so cute and proud by the end of this one. Loid is a bit stressed, but Anya is sure it is under control.
The banter is so good in this one! Kiki and Malakai are good together. I like that they are not just trying to make their relationship work and dealing with personal issues, but also trying to make change and live up to their ideals. I did not expect this level of awesome when I started the book. At first I thought it would be an average college romance book, but it was really so much more!
This book is wonderfully campy and meta. Every thriller trope you could possibly think of are in here and yet I still care about Emma and what is happening to her. I love this book and I'm so sad that so many others missed the humor and fun in the book.
I love a story with an adventure under water. That was my favorite part of this. I was a little confused about how it all worked before the ship went down . The characters were a bit one note, but the action pushed forward quickly enough that it wasn't too distracting. Overall good thriller under the water.
I liked the solution and the investigation. This one felt like a classic mystery story, like you would hear on the radio. This series is so much fun.
I am so glad I finally got around to reading this one. Cameron and Tova were so much fun to follow around. There were some parts that fell apart with too much thinking, so I stopped thinking about it and just enjoyed being with the characters. I am glad Tova got closure, but there was one part that I wished hadn't happened, but overall it ended the way I wanted it to.
This woman is amazing. She wrote an excellent book about a very difficult life and had so much compassion for those she loves in the process. It would have been easy to give up on those loved ones, but she didn't. She also has no problem pointing out the racism and colorism that exists in acting, but even then it doesn't feel vindictive. I am so glad that she is being recognized as an amazing actress as well as an amazing person.
I really wanted to dislike Ruby, but I couldn't! I was so nervous to see how she would prove her innocence. And then when we find out how that was proved! I never saw that coming. Also this cover is gorgeous!
I liked the Alaska setting. I mostly liked the characters. They were definitely teenagers making teenager decisions. As a teen, I probably would have loved the book. So this is a great emotional book about grief and friendship and secrets for teens.
He truly is a wrestling historian! I felt that added a lot to the book. He is a very positive person and looks at the good in the situation and people. I appreciated that, but at times it made me wonder if that made him ignore some valid criticisms. Overall he did a good job telling his story and being honest about his struggles and faults. It was enjoyable.
I was so worried about these characters! I didn't know what was going to happen. Also I just love Sumi! This series and the connections between books are so much better than I expected them to be.
Oh my heart! This book was beautiful and heartbreaking and heartwarming just like so many other books in this series. I am constantly impressed by the way that McGuire creates new and compelling world that fit these characters so perfectly. I now want to go back and reread the first few books, so I can relive all the other scenes with Nadya. This is definitely one of my favorites.
This is my first Fiona Davis book and it did not disappoint. We got a cast of strong unique characters in both timelines. There was a strong sense of place that really shaped the characters as well. The ending was probably my favorite part. I think I will have to read more from Fiona Davis.
I loved this duology. Roma and Juliette are amazing characters and so flawed. They are working so hard to stay true to their ideals, but it is not easy in that environment. There were times where the book seemed to get long with so many groups trying to gain control and power. The ending was not what I wanted, but I don't know how it could have been different. I will be thinking about Roma and Juliette often and I am excited to read the next duology.
I am so glad this is a stand-alone fantasy! As I got further into the book, I had to know how it wrapped up and what happens to everyone. And thankfully, I got to find out all about them! I think the twist and the way it worked out was so clever and different. The gods were sometimes petty and sometimes generous, sometimes power hungry and sometimes compassionate. I like it when the god realm is portrayed as complicated that way.
Mina is amazing! She is constantly fighting for what is best for everyone. I loved seeing her stick by her values and morals.
The story is interesting. I'm not sure what the author was trying to say even after reading all the ancillary materials with this edition.
This was a fun isolated setting mystery. I should have seen the twist coming, but I didn't! The relationships between these people was a nice touch, but it wasn't as impactful as I wanted it to be.
This book is horrific in the flippant way so many people treat the plantation and its history. Then we discover the depth of the history and it is even more horrific than I expected. I am actively trying to remove the word plantation from my vocabulary and when I do have to use it, I cringe. This book made my head knowledge real. Wow! So good.
I loved the setup of them having to work together for the wedding. Their banter was great. I wanted a little more Trinidadian culture, but it could have felt forced in there. So that's a minor complaint. My major complaint with this story was that the middle dragged. It felt like there were spicy scenes added without actual depth added for the characters. I really liked the characters and that's why I wanted more depth for them. But overall this was a fun romcom. And I would recommend it to anyone looking for a fun quick romance read.
I love that this is a ‘men's thriller' type book with much deeper themes of racism, homophobia, and more. We get gun battles, explosions, truly evil bad guys, and righteous causes to fight for like I have come to expect in these types of books. I was unprepared for the amount of things that Ike and Buddy Lee learn throughout the book. I will be thinking about these characters often.
I like the setting and creepiness. I like the legend that drives the story. I like the concept of the story being told and retold. I think I just wanted more supernatural creepiness and gore.
OMG! I loved this book. Maybell and Wesley are great characters. I was happy for them, sad for them, and mad for them at various times. It really made me care about their relationship. I liked the spice level, low, because it gave them time to get to know one another. Maybell's daydreams were funny at first and then sad. I like the way that those developed in relation to her development. I generally don't reread books, but I could reread this one.
I love a journalist looking at an old event to find out the truth. Then add in fame, racism, and capitalism and you have a powerful book. I listened to the audiobook, which has a full cast that includes Bahni Turpin! It made the story really pop. I want so many people to read this, so we can all see how powerful Opal is, as well as all the people who help her get there. This will be a favorite of the year.
I'm not really into horses, so this world wasn't my favorite. I did like the way the world worked and the secret that kept it going. That was a unique spin and it has kept me thinking about how that applies to my life.
