This book had potential but it was poorly executed and in some places trying to hard. The character did not seem fleshed out enough for me and I made it hard for me to relate and understand their growing relationship.
Second book by this author I've read. Unfortunately, both stories didn't work to me. I don't enjoy the way the author does characters or plots, so won't be reading any more. Too bad, I liked the book blurb.
Once again, mainstream books - step aside! Indie novels are here to challenge your place! A Deal with the Elf King was definitely strong on the B&B retelling vibes, along with Hades/Persephone, etc. Actually, when I saw the cover, the FIRST thing I thought was “omg is that Hades and Persephone???!” I thought the writing style was great and fast-paced, at first I thought things were happening a little too quickly, but I actually ended up really enjoying the pace and nature of the book. Luella is a strong-willed MC - typical in fantasy/YA I guess, but I like it. Her relationship with the Elf King is also very fleshed out and believable given her circumstances and what she's been forced to go through. I would say this was a guilty pleasure romance read, but....there's nothing guilty about it.
3.5 stars. Cute book. Writing wasn't my typical style, but I liked the story.
Are you a fan of the “enemies to lovers” trope? Then this book is perfect for you!
I had the great opportunity to read an advanced copy of this book and I'm so glad I did. It was good. It was a very interesting and special book, I did not expect to like it as much as I did. I've got to say, the cover drew my attention from the very first time I saw the book. I mean... That's a stunning illustration. Especially because it gives us the chance to correlate the characters with the faces.
Luella is a very beautiful character and she has a great name, I think it sounds so magical and it's perfect for her character. She's strong, she's determined to help everyone and she fights for her dreams. She doesn't let the might Elf King come between her and her duty, she finds ways to help others even when she becomes the Human Queen and she isn't supposed to do those things. That makes her a really great character, alongside her kindness, her ability to see the good in people.
Eldas is the dark, but actually kind of soft, Elf King. He comes to the Human realm, he takes the girl and forces her to become a Queen, when all she wanted to be was a healer. Of course, we all hated him at first. But then... Oh, then... We see his good side. His loving side. His affection for Luella is so precious and the things he does for her melt my heart.
The book is a really easy and quick read, it being a stand-alone, you find yourself lost in this beautiful world and then you will want more and more. The words flow in such a beautiful way that you don't know when you go from hating Eldas to loving him, from having your heart broken to it being pieced back together. Elise is a great writer and I can't wait to read more of her books!
A really fun fae/elf fantasy romance. I devoured it in one sitting because it was so engrossing! Not too steamy of a fantasy romance but it was everything I wanted.
Deal With the Elf King by Elise Kova
A Married to Magic Novel
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5
This book was so good! A sweet fantasy romance. Not a whole lot of adventure or suspense, but definitely a great read! The writing style was so damn good! This book, in my opinion, is YA but it's so well written! The writing style is superb! This was a quick read for me and only took me a day. It's got a few of my fave tropes: enemies to lovers and one bed. Theres the sweetest romance that develops over the course of the story which, while predictable, I still enjoyed. My only complaint is that I wish the MC was older but that is probably bc I'm older (FMC is 19 I'm almost 30). I still thoroughly enjoyed the book and couldn't put it down! The writing was so good so if you need a quick fantasy palate cleanser, definitely pick this up. 16+ sexual content but not graphic, mostly fade to black.
I went into this thinking it would be spicier, despite that it's a really good book. The book itself is very fast paced, as it happens in the span of three months, but the chemistry between Luella and Elda is so well written.
Elda's character arc is chefs kiss
I wasn't invested in the story or the characters or the world. Also there was no chemistry between the MCs.
Nada especial ni del otro mundo, muy predecible. Pero aún así me ha gustado y me ha tenido enganchada hasta que lo he acabado.
So heartwarming by the end but the plot was slow enough to bore me for the most part
Cute, endearing and the dialogue between the characters is funny. It's more spicy innuendos than spicy scenes and is a nice starting place for the world the author is creating.
3 stars because if you chose not to read it, you're not missing out but if you do read it is adorable
