Cress has been a prisoner on a satellite in space for what seems like forever. After risking her life to help Cinder, she anxiously awaits a rescue. The rescue does not go as planned. Sybil knows and is ready. With no choice but to leave some behind, Cinder must prepare to fight and stop Kai from marrying Levana. I LOVE this series! Rebecca Soler is such a great narrator.
enfim, ganhou meu troféu surpresa do ano.
Dito isso, parti Winter
This book was the best so far, I love this series so much I can't even. That's as coherent a review I can write without starting to flail and scream.
I liked it but it took me more than the necessary amount of time to actually finish it. It hook me up right at the very end, so much going around and around. But finally Winter has made an appearance and I like Thorne a lot lot than I do Kai.
Ughhhh. WHY AM I STILL READING THIS SERIES? I just have to know what happens. But the characters are all whiny and insufferable, not to mention completely idiotic. WHY, OH WHY?
4.5 stars.
I had SUCH a fun time with this! This book's biggest strength is its action/pacing. This series has done an excellent job of ratcheting up the action book by book. This one is quite action-packed compared to Cinder, which I got bored with in a few places. I loved how much we got to see the rest of the setting; to bring up Cinder again, I felt that the setting of New Beijing was basically wasted, and I feel that that was kind of fixed in Scarlet. I was happy to see that fixed with Cress. We got to see so many places and get a real sense of life in this world, as well as on Luna!
I also really, really liked Cress as a main character. Her voice and personality are so unique amidst the others in the group (Scarlet, Wolf, Cinder, Thorne, Iko), and it was refreshing to have someone in the mix who isn't sarcastic, snarky, or cynical. Cress adds a necessary dimension to the character spread, and it's fun to see the different characters interact with her and react to how different she is. I also love Jason Clay!
The Cress/Thorne romance was just...okay. Can I just say it? I don't like Thorne that much. I loved him interacting with Cress in the desert (that was easily the best part of their romance), but after that, it went downhill. I like a character who breaks the tension with humor, but a lot of times it's like he's unaware there is any tension at all. The one exception I can remember is the exchange between him and Jason Clay (“Where's my gun?” “I've got it.” “Can I have it back?” “Nope.”). That shit cracked me up.
Anyway, the Cress/Thorne romance needs some serious development/maturity. Throughout, Cress is a perfectly devoted little angel, and he's...well, he's Thorne. I'd love to see Cress mature out of the fangirl love for him, and I'd love to see Thorne develop some sensitivity and self-awareness. UGH I WAS WAITING FOR HIM TO TELL HER HE ISN'T REALLY A CAPTAIN, BUT HE DIDN'T! In a good romance, both people need to grow as a result of being with each other. Cress has definitely evolved the most of the two. He allows her to put him on a pedestal, but when is he going to do the same for her? Yeah, he said she has a beautiful singing voice, but what else? I'm not really convinced he likes her all that much, if I'm being honest. It seems more of a convenience thing, not a conscious choice. It's certainly not the worst romance in a book. More often than not, it's very sweet and squishy and all that. I just don't love it the way other people seem to. Thorne is easily my least favorite character. There's time for more development, though! I'd love to be in the camp of Thorne fans, but as of now, I'm not there yet.
Regarding the other romances, I'm thrilled with the development of Cinder and Kai. Prior to Cress It felt a bit too much like “she's-Cinderella-and-he's-the-prince-so-it-kinda-has-to-go-this-way.” However, I LOVED their scene at the end! It felt totally earned, and so sweet! And of course, I really enjoy Scarlet and Wolf together. I liked his characterization in reaction to Scarlet's absence.
DR. ERLAND AND CRESS. THAT WHOLE SCENE. YOU KNOW THE ONE. DAMN.
ANYWAY, I'm very excited for Winter! A lot of other YA books tend to sag toward the middle of their series, but with The Lunar Chronicles, it's been the opposite! I can't wait to see where it goes from here!
I was really excited to read this book but then it just seemed to drag on and on and on. I found myself skimming a lot of parts. I enjoyed Cress as a character, but wasn't too convinced by her journey. Let's hope the next installment is better.
3.5 Stars
This book handles its various perspectives very very well. The momentum carries between different character's POVs and it works out really well!I found the climax really compelling though! Everything plot and world related worked really well for me. I think the middle of this book was a little dry and felt frustratingly slow. I think it led to a lot of romance and cute stuff but I'm not normally a huge fan of romance especially YA romance so I was just not super into it. I also found it annoying that Scarlet and Wolf were relegated to the sidelines and were left as plot devices even though we just came out of their book. For those reason Cress gets a 3.5
Oh yes! Cress has won this series back for me! I was getting a bit worried after Scarlet - whilst I did enjoy it, it was disappointing after Cinder. Cress is just brilliant - I loved the character development and introduction of Winter. I'll be reading Fairest before I finish with Winter. Looking forward to both!
˚ʚ♡ɞ˚ literally the best one so far.... cress and thorne are my new comfort characters ˚ʚ♡ɞ˚
AHHHH
I'm so impressed by how equally compelling I find all these characters and their various plotlines. We still have Cinder and Scarlet from the previous books, and now we've added Cress to the mix, and it's a lot to juggle but I'm on board with all of it. And the fairy tale retellings are so cleverly done, while still allowing for plenty of surprising plot twists.
When does the next one come out??? Soon right?? November 2015? nooooooooooo
Reading Cress feels like having a great adventure. There's so much going on in this book. By the time I reached the end, I felt like the plot has moved far, far away from where it was at the start of the book. It's a really engaging read, and the characters have grown so much since the beginning of the series.Cress and Thorne are probably my favorite couple so far. I loved Thorne in [b:Scarlet 13206760 Scarlet (The Lunar Chronicles, #2) Marissa Meyer https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1342485529s/13206760.jpg 18390691], and even more so after the epic journey he shared with Cress through the desert. As for Cress herself, I didn't expect to like her because naïve characters tend to annoy me if not nicely handled... but in the end, I liked Cress just fine. She's cute, and her romantic fantasies are adorable. Also, we get to see Princess Winter in this book. Along with her childhood friend and love interest Jacin, who temporarily joined Cinder on the Rampion. While we don't get to learn that much about them, I loved what we've seen from them so far. Jacin is so rude and sarcastic it's hilarious at times, while Winter is... interesting.Cinder and Kai finally have more time together towards the end of the book. At first my opinion of Kai hasn't really improved since he was being awfully doubtful and judgmental towards Cinder, but he does get better so I find myself liking him a bit more. Or maybe I'm just happy that my wish for Cinder to kidnap Kai finally came true. While I still have [b:Fairest 22489107 Fairest (The Lunar Chronicles, #3.5) Marissa Meyer https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1402940130s/22489107.jpg 41928590] to read, I'm really looking forward to [b:Winter 13206900 Winter (The Lunar Chronicles, #4) Marissa Meyer https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1426654088s/13206900.jpg 18390887]. Can't wait to see how she's going to deal with Scarlet's feisty temper too. :'D
I thought I might be losing interest in this series after I didn't get hooked on the second book like I fell in love with the first one but that was not the case here because I'm obsessed. The way it brings everyone together and then set up the next part of the story is delicious. There were plot twists that I didn't see coming but made absolute sense and I was like woah.
So....didn't like this one as much. The story progressed well, but the new relationship (Cress and edit) felt silly and forced. I understand following the fairy tale, but honestly that part felt like a written version of the Tangled movie. That said - Cinder and Kai - awwww. I'm really interested to see how the last book will tie up all the trailing threads of the different stories. Hoping it is all it promises it could be!
I imagined myself rating this 5 stars but I'm not quite sure anymore. I wish it ended with a Cress and Thorne moment but I guess it isn't always possible. Without all of that, it is a 5 star read.
This is by far the best book in the Lunar Chronicles, I absolutely LOVE Cress and Thorne.
Carswell Thorne is an amazing character, I really liked his easy going nature since he was introduced. But even with an awkward Cress he manages to treat her right and the banter is just amazing.
They made me laugh and cry a good amount of times. They are lovely and I NEED more Cress and Thorne moments.
What an ending! I can't wait for the next one, I'm going to pick it up A.S.A.P. !
This is fast becoming my favorite series of this year. I am really loving this fairy tale retelling. These characters, the action, the romance, absolutely love all of it.
I know I'm picking at details, but you don't “coronate” someone. You crown him or her. The event is called a coronation because “crownation” is really awkward.
Nonetheless, enjoyed the book & looking forward to the next installment.
I really want to see how the story turns out, but this was my least favorite of the entire series.
