While this is probably not the best read in the current climate (it involves hysteria over a mysterious illness) I still enjoyed it immensely. The narrator of the audiobook (January LaVoy) is honestly one of the best I've ever heard. Onto Number 3!
This was better than the first book, in my opinion. I loved the characters even more in this one because I finally felt connected to them and I also loved the new characters that were introduced to us. I read this while I was listening to the audiobook and, once again, I fell in love with Libba Bray's writing as well as January LaVoy's voice acting that it made me fully immersed in the story. The reason why I took off a star is because the first half was a bit slow for me but when things started to pick up, it was a swell time.
Ooh this was good. I loved that Ling was a fully formed character in this one. She's the best! I'm excited all the characters are starting to talk to each other and form a Diviner Dream Team. ♥️
Usually with series, I stop reading halfway through the second book and then stop; there's something about the 2nd book curse in series that gets me. That was totally not the case for Lair of Dreams. I didn't love it as much as I loved the first book, but it was still a solid read that I very much enjoyed. If you have not started this series, what are you doing??
SCREAM I loved this so much!! For me personally I preferred it to the first because it was less scary-scary and more about the characters' fears/desires. I also loved the building suspense about Project Buffalo, getting real X-Filesy up in here. And I loved getting more of the characters from the first book as well as the introduction of Ling. (Badass disabled Chinese-American possibly-queer character in a genre novel, what upppp)
But now I have to wait for book 3?! Noooo
