I enjoyed this book more than Legend. However, the love triangle between Tess, June, and Day seemed unnecessary. Cannot wait to read the final book!!
I actually liked this one better than Legend (though I loved Legend!!)
This book is the perfect dystopian story with great characters, a good and interesting plot, some angst and just v v nice story.
I don't have any other coherent thoughts
This sequel to the Legend series picks up days after Day and June escaped the Republic. Day's brother John has been executed instead of him and his brother Eden is still a prisoner. Day is injured and they need help and for him to get better and rescue his little brother is to join the Patriots but the leader wants one thing in return : assassinate the new Elector Anden.
June has to go back to the Republic and insert herself to be close to Anden and execute their plan. The more she talk to him, the more she realizes that he's not as cruel as he seems or is it a trick?
Day is also confused about his feeling for June, who he has known for a month and Tess the one who has been by his side for years? Tess feels that he's putting his trust in the wrong person. How can he love someone he barely knows and who is responsible in part in his family's tragedy?
The sequel starts a little slow but picks up and the action and the suspense is right on point. The love triangle is well done and you do feel the hurt that both Day and June feel when their feelings are questioned. Does day love June or Tess? Is June in love with Day or her attraction to Anden is real or just a way to go back to being back to her old life, with money and security?
What about the Patriots leader Razor? Is he being truthful or or there something else he's not telling. Kaede who was in Legend is part of the Patriots but why?
There is a sad death and someone gets very bad news that surprised me.
Some questions are answered and more are not. The climax of the ending leaves you wanting more.
Great series, great book and the conclusion is all part of the third instalment : Champion.
4/5 stars!
I'm glad June got her dog back in the end. Didn't see the twist coming but really looking forward to the last book to see how it all ends.
ok. it got definitely better in this one and i am happy about that, really. i loved the scene in the jet. it was so good, i wished i was there. I had goose bumps all over. yes!
I'm interested in the next one. How will it go? Right now i can't even imagine what could happen. So yeah, tomorrow I'm going to read Champion :) wuhu
4.5/5 stars
I think I enjoyed this book even more than Legend! I can't wait to read Champion!
2,5⭐️
I heated the first part of the book! I really loved the first book of this trilogy (I gave it 5 stars), but this was really disappointing...
I loved the last chapters, but I just can't give it more than 2,5 stars
One of the better dystopian books out right now. I can't wait for the next one.
NO. NO. NO NO NO NO NO. IT CAN'T END LIKE THAT! I JUST CAN'T NO STOP IT STOP IT! DAY WHY DIDN'T YOU TELL HER, JUNE WHY DIDN'T YOU TELL HIM TO TELL YOU? NO NO NO NO NO IT CAN'T BE RIGHT NOOOOOOOO
I COULD CRY
SO AMAZING
It was so good. Although I personally don't agree with the plot twist in the end I found it completely unnecessary. At times I honestly couldn't stand June and found it hard to actually sympathize with her character. As always I absolutely love Day he was great. As always it was easy to distinguish the voice between both characters. I think I'm going to wait a bit before I pick up the last book so I could savor this trilogy.
Much like its predecessor, this is a fantastic read. A quick summer read filled with action and intrigue and a little bit of deception presented in a tightly planned and well written book. I highly recommend this series.
3.5 stars!
I seriously think I have Middle Book Syndrome! I always end up being underwhelmed with a second book when I've loved the first one, and this was the same. I had to force myself through certain parts of this but the ending saved it. Hopefully the final instalment picks up again!
Why can't we have at least a happy ending? Hmm, I have thoughts: first, this book was way better than Legend. June, she changed a lot, really a lot. I like enemies to lovers and slow burn, this is why June and Day together is not my first option but is fine, I guess. But WHY did I ship Aden and June??? Ok so hear me out: THIS IS WHAT I WANT, and enemies to lovers SLOW BURN. Like what else do you need? But look, Day is a really good pick for June, but I don't really know. Is not my fav.
I'm soooo confused with the colonies or sum like that. I don't get why the people gave me the creeps.
actual rating: 3.90/5 stars
enjoyed it a lot. better than legend. still not a page-turner for me though
It didn't feel fair. Rereading this was definitely worth it almost better than the first time.
Oh uhhh I decided to read this because [b:Pandemonium 9593911 Pandemonium (Delirium, #2) Lauren Oliver http://d202m5krfqbpi5.cloudfront.net/books/1310371414s/9593911.jpg 14480923] made me think I was recovered from Dystopia Fatigue but maybe I wasn't really. Maybe my government mandated cure for Dystopia Fatigue didn't work! Maybe I'm a special and unique CHOSEN ONE!!! But also I guess maybe I didn't like [b:Legend 9275658 Legend (Legend, #1) Marie Lu http://d202m5krfqbpi5.cloudfront.net/books/1333909141s/9275658.jpg 14157512] as much as [b:Delirium 11614718 Delirium (Delirium, #1) Lauren Oliver http://d202m5krfqbpi5.cloudfront.net/books/1327890411s/11614718.jpg 10342808] in the first place.Anyway, same deal as with Lauren Oliver's books, in that it had been awhile for me between books 1 & 2 and I did not super remember what happened in Legend. I found that to be slightly more crippling for Prodigy, but also I didn't super care enough to try to google it. I think by about halfway through the book I'd pieced together most of what happened in Legend.IDK. It was fast paced? I read it all in one day. It was maybe too fast paced? They did all this shit in like 2 days? Fine, whatever. Is this like a love rectangle now or what. I did like all the talk of class consciousness. Four for you, Day.like WHATEVER. if you're crazy about teen dystopias you probably already read this. if you're not I wouldn't recommend you go out of your way to read it.I can't decide if this should be 2 or 3 stars. But, I did read it all in one day, so I guess that's something. Also I like that Day's chapters were in blue ink. Uh... yeah.
WOW! Just WOW!
I'm sitting here trying to take it all in. I'm happy, proud and sad all at once!
The very first thing I must mention about Prodigy is just how much growth is in this book. Everything is more cohesive, the world building awesome, the character development is on point, the action is intense and in your face and awesome, the flow is fast paced and smooth, the plot and the journey consistent, believable and amazing; the ending absolutely heart breaking.
Legend, book one in the series, was a good book but it lacked a more thorough background. The reader was left wondering what exactly had taken place that led to the United States being completely ripped apart. We had to take things at face value. The action and intrigue are what kept me going through that one. In Prodigy, book two in the series, I find myself thinking this is what Legend needed to be. We now know what caused the United States to be torn into pieces and really what happened to all of North and South America.
This book also lent for a better understanding of Day and June and what made them tick. I think I had a pretty good idea in Legend but the writing in Prodigy made them more solid as characters. June is just kick ass. Day and June are definitely prodigies. They are pretty brilliant, however, where Day lacks June is stronger. They balance each other out in different ways and together they are a power couple. If their relationship was foggy in Legend it will be crystal clear in Prodigy. June might be the one lacking experience in the emotional department as far as knowing how to express it but she is clearly the more logical and loyal one. She simply sees things more clearly pretty much in everything that transpires. June only sees and trusts Day. Day's loyalty is more dispersed and that is what gets him in trouble.
Prodigy had great characters. They were strong and there for a reason. Something else I must mention about the entire series that is extremely important to me and has left a lasting impression in my eyes; I absolutely love that about 98% of the characters are people of color. It almost felt like every single one was and hey, that sits awesomely with me! We need more diversity in books and Marie Lu tackles this brilliantly. The characters are written in such a relatable fashion proving that people are people regardless of ethnicity or color and I could see myself living any of their lives while reading this book. Marie Lu doesn't fall into any stereotype traps to prove their ethnicity. They just are who they are. The only indication they are people of color is their names. I LOVE THIS!
Emotional connections are important to me. For a writer to make you feel throughout a book is sometimes very hard to achieve. Let me tell you this was executed awesomely. I felt so many emotions that I thought I was going to burst by the time I reached the last word on the last page. There are moments of tenderness, angst, fear, heart-breaking sadness, uncertainty, adrenaline rushes, and intensity. Happy moments didn't really come because a sense of urgency and that the shoe was about to fall loomed over the entire time. This book literally had me on my toes. I just couldn't take a breather. Intense, y'all. Intense.
I highly recommend this book and the series! Beware: The ending will absolutely crush you. I have faith though... I do!
Please checkout Marie Lu's website. It's full of awesome Legend Series artwork drawn by her. She didn't ask me to post this. THIS IS ALL ME! She is awesome in many ways and I think she totally deserves the credit.
While [b:Legend 17800966 Legend (Legend, #1) Marie Lu https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1366036715s/17800966.jpg 14157512] highlights the attraction that brought Day and June together, this book shows the differences between them and the consequences of what they've done so far. Especially for June. Doubts start to form between them as they get more and more involved with the Patriots, as Day gradually grows to see past that attraction and begins to question June. There's a lot of development here, both for the characters and the ongoing political drama. I was hoping to see the world expanding, and it does expand into a bigger picture once Day and June leave the Republic. They have to part temporarily due to a certain plan, and that's when they are forced to rethink and reconsider their options... because nothing is as it seems.Sadly, I'm not too fond of how Tess turned out to be in this book. Most likely because I liked the platonic relationship she shared with Day in the previous one. In Prodigy, Tess is terribly jealous of June and makes accusations based on jealousy alone. As much as Day tries to defend June, there's a point in the story where it does get to him, and the argument it caused was so painful for both parties. It doesn't help that Anden, the new Elector, is a brilliant character and seems to be a better option for June in comparison....and then I felt guilty for having such thoughts because of that ending.
For going a decade between reading the first book and its sequel, this was brilliant. Though there were some things I couldn't remember, and a few things I was confused about, I slipped back into the world of Legend as if I had never left. I really enjoyed June's point-of-view chapters, and Day's began to grow on me closer to the end. I loved the way Marie Lu wrote the political intrigue, and the twists were so expertly devised. I'm going to be thinking about that ending for the next three-to-five business days. Reading the third book ASAP.
