Tears of the Giraffe

As with the first book, I really enjoyed this story. All the characters are so likable and I enjoyed the way the stories fit together. This books is a nice relaxing read but I didn't want to put it down.

Precious Ramotswe started a detective agency in Botswana in the first book. Now in this book her secretary expressed an interest in being a detective as well. She decided to promote her to assistant detective and let her have a more simple case to see how she handles it. She discovered that finding the information she needed was the easy part but she had other moral conflicts to think about before telling her client the results. I do have to say that I did not agree with the way that case was handled but that doesn't really matter.

Miss Ramatswe was also engaged to be married in the first book and this book dealt with the issue of which house they would live in and buying a ring. That part of the story was cute. Mr. J.L.B. Matekoni also found himself in a tight spot when he was visiting a home for orphans when the owner talked him into taking two siblings to foster before he could discuss it with his future wife. She was busy investigating a case of a missing young American man who had disappeared 10 years earlier. That was a very difficult case since so much time had passed and it had already been investigated by the police and other trackers etc. She wasn't sure she would be able to uncover any new information but she had to try for the mother of the young man. This mother needed closure and Miss Romatswe was determined to do what she could.

Glorious, evocative, heart-warming and always makes me want to go to Botswana!
