I love this world but didn't enjoy this book as much as the first one. The conflict wasn't as interesting or at least not as developed but seemed more akin to a classic ghost story than the first book. I realise that this was written for children rather than a middle-aged adult like me but I felt Schwab dumbed down Cassidy too much. She's 12 and in modern times, not an infant. A pre-teen in 2019 is going to know basically what a crepe is. I also worry that her parents aren't really providing any sort of education since she knew absolutely nothing about Paris and some of the things she wondered about seemed... worrying. Still, these are fun books and I love ghost stories. I would love a book focusing on Jacob or his backstory since we still don't know anything about it besides he drowned and he's not willing to share with Cassidy.

This book was just as good as the first in the series, and a great quick read during the Halloween season! Having visited the Catacombs in Paris, this was especially spooky as I could remember the cold and damp and creepiness of the space. If you are looking for a spooky page-turner, this is a great choice!
i loved the setting and the exploration of friendship. it had such creepy vibes and i adored it just like the first one
These books are supposed to be middle grade, but I find myself truly creeped out. Yes, I am a wimp - but this is truly freakyyyy.
Cute middle grade! I love Schwab. I listened to this this weekend while I knit a blanket. It was a great cozy middle grade ghost story. I love Cass and Jacob's friendship.

I enjoyed this, but I definitely liked the first one more. I love the characters, so of course I will read the next one. I think this series is perfect for this time of the year.

I pick up City of Ghosts maybe around march of this year, it was the first book that i read by Victoria Schwab. It was also the quick i ever read, until this one! It's easy to fall in love with Victoria Schwab writting and the worlds she creates, at least i can talk for myself.
I read in a lot of reviews that this book it's even better that City of Ghosts, i'm not sure, i love them both so much, but in this second one, we get to know more about Jacob, and how lovely and precious that little boy is!! That boy deserves both worlds (the living, the death and the in between). Also, Cassidy is a really bad ass for a girl of her age, i'm on my 20s and i would 100% not do it half of what she did!! I was always on Jacob side yelling at her! #anxiety
As an adult, I really enjoyed the first audiobook. As someone whose spooky reading level is “wimpy” I decided to pick up the second audiobook for this spooky season. I didn't enjoy this one as much as the first; it felt slower and I didn't feel as curious or spooked out as I did with the first one. Still a recommended read for elementary-aged young ones or curious adults.
